Birth Week Wed 27th - Sun 31st May

Birth Week is a five-day annual event promoting conscious and empowered birth, the sharing of stories and wisdom, creating support networks for families and fostering community. It brings together pregnant women/couples, mothers, fathers, doulas, midwives and other interested persons, in a beautiful, safe and nurturing space.

We share our knowledge, skills and wisdom.  Sessions are facilitated in circle style.  These sessions are suited to anyone wishing to share or further their knowledge and wisdom of birthing practices and choices.

Birth Week is held at the Kallista Hall in the Dandenong Ranges and is a time to come together with other mothers, partners, pregnant women, support persons, doulas and midwives to share, explore, discover and celbrate birth in a beautifully created space. At Birth Week you can participate in workshops, films, talks, birth circles, access the reading and resource library and view the beautiful birth inspired art exhibition.

For session details or more information please contact Bhava Dokos-Schoell, Birth Week 2009 Event Co-ordinator eventcoordinator@birthweek.org.au or visit our website www.birthweek.org.au.

Dear Bhava and the rest of the committee

It was my first attendance at Birth Week and I absolutely loved it. I'll be back next year. Congratulations.

A couple of things I'd love to see on the program would be something on the use of alternative medicine in pregnancy and beyond.

I'm expecting my first baby and I cannot speak highly enough of homeopathy. Helped me get pregnant, fixed my constant migraines early in pregnancy and I've just said goodbye to constant reflux. I've also been greatly comforted by the possibility of using homeopathy to avoid induction which is my greatest fear as I was a 43 week baby and late babies tend to run in my family.

I'd love to hear alternative approaches for common baby health issues such as fever, colic etc.

I thought there was quite a lot of conversation about immunisations too and I know it's a political hot potato, especially for health professionals, but there are homeopaths and others out there who are willing to talk about options such as homeoprophalaxis and addressing the effects post vaccination for people who decide to vaccinate. Even just communicating with clarity the real situation regarding child care and school would be golden.

I look forward to coming along next year and I'll be recommending it to people I know with babes or babes on the way.
